Non-Communicable Diseases (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and chronic lung disease) are largely preventable although global trends point to a rise in their incidence in both developed and developing countries. 53 million deaths as a result of NCDs are predicted by 2030. This is a human tragedy which will also have serious implications for already overburdened health systems.
